The Bridge: Dancing “Getting lost with the Aeta Kids”

It’s only been 48 hours and this trip has already been a life changing experience.

To genuinely experience a reciprocation of heartwarming enjoyment and getting lost together couldn’t be anymore amazing thing I could ask for. We all just let go of any selfless feelings or needs and just gave everything we had to the kids.  Despite experiencing the flat tire and having to wait on the side of the road, which did delay our little trip to the Aeta village we soaked up every minute we had with these kids. They got a little bit of Tahitian dancing, Popping and groove, BBoying, and even “Sexy Dance”(hahahahaha). These kids were all smiles and so enthusiastic to see our showcase.

The most important thing I was worried about was that we were dealing with kids. We all know the attention spans of kids can only run so far especially when it comes to teaching anything.  I think that whole thought process was left outside right when we walked into the schoolyard. I walked in and like I said before I just got lost with the kids and ran through feeling. I asked them “How does dance make you feel?” They all just started grooving and two-stepping and it was just so natural. So I went into grooves and from their all the excitement just elevated.  These kids were having blast smiling and so eager to learn anything I taught them. I just remember teaching them waves and hearing the kids voices repeating everything I taught was probably one of the best feelings I’ve ever had.

I’ve taught plenty of children but this was so different. I knew that this experience to them was as rare as it was for me. That moment was so special cuz I knew we both wanted to give everything in that little time we had. I remember after taking pictures with the kids I noticed the dirt handprints that were left on my shirt. That was a pretty hard moment for me to hold in my emotions just biting my lip and taking a big deep breath. Those handprints were a representation of the impact of how they touched me and how I touched them. That was reciprocation at it’s finest.
